02. Diversifying forms of process assessment in higher education

ABSTRACT: Formative assessment, one of the two main types of learning assessment at all levels of education, plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of teaching and learning. However, formative assessment has not been frequently used and rarely made its real impact on improving teaching and learning in the classrooms or during the training courses. The paper will (1) give a theoretical overview of the formative assessment; (2) present and analyze some popular formative classroom assessment techniques in the world so far, including the application of ICT in formative assessment with some illustrations; (3) describe a general picture of formative assessment activities in the Vietnamese higher education institutions nowadays: advantages and challenges and finally with the case study of USSH, VNU-HCM (4) give some recommendations for the innovations in formative assessment in the Vietnamese higher education training courses.
