14. The factors affecting the competitiveness of the universities in the area of Ho Chi Minh city

ABSTRACT

This research was conducted to analyze factors influencing competitive advantage among universities, according to Michael E. Porter theory and Thompson Strickland method. These findings will recommend some solutions in order to enhance competitive advantage among universities in HoChiMinh city. This empirical study combines both quantitative and qualitative methods to implement a survey, including 230 students undergraduate and graduate students in HoChiMinh city. The results showed that universities‘s competitive advantage comes from 9 factors, including: (1) Research and Development (R&D; (2) Brands; (3) Facilities and equipment; (4) Training program; (5) Finance; (6) Lecture staff; (7) Corporate international; (8) Marketing; (9) Cultural environment.
