05. Status of school counseling in secondary and high schools

ABSTRACT

This study aims to clarify the status of school counseling in secondary and high schools. Research sample were 1.938 students and 188 teachers in secondary and high schools in Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Tri and Phu Tho provinces. Research results showed that schools have begun to pay attention in implementating school counselling, however, the contents and forms of this activity is not diverse and its level is quite limited. School counselors are mostly teachers who hold more tasks. Most schools have not had specialized rooms for counseling. Expenditure for paying counselors and for conducting counselling activities are very lemited. To improve the effectiveness of school counselling, schools need to have solutiosn for developing the quality of counselors, improve facilities and increase expenditure for this activity
