03. A flexible approach to STEM education to meet requirements of the new general education program

ABSTRACTS: STEM education is an interdisciplinary approach in learning, was first applied in the United States, aiming at developing students’ skills in science, technology, engineering and math associated with practical problem solving. STEM Education has been introduced into many countries, including Vietnam with different levels and forms. This paper presents the definition of STEM Education and its variants, as well as the goals, characteristics, levels of implementation; followed by the similarity between the goals of STEM education and goals of the new general education program. Diversity in interpretation of STEM is both challenges and advantages, which requires a flexible approach to the implementation of STEM education in primary schools in the context of reforming general education.
