07. Asean Community and trends of higher education development
Thanh Phuong ABSTRACT: This paper aims to shed light on the development trends of higher education in the region in the context of the ASEAN Community’s recent establishment. First, the paper analyses the essential characteristics of the socio - economic context and the objectives set forth for the Community, as well as showing that the higher education is an important area with its specific roles. Next, paper conducts in - depth analysis of nine trends that higher education should be take into account in the context of a united ASEAN Community. Finally, the paper proposes recommendations that the development of higher education in Vietnam should follow the regional general trends, with special attention to the quality accreditation at South East Asian and Asian levels, researching and proposing the national qualification frameworks, increase in the use of ICT, promoting research and teaching English in universities.
