16. The Impact of Early Interventional Interventions Enhancing Behavior and Potential of Spectra on Communication Development in Autistic Spectrum Disorders
ABSTRACT:
Communication deficits are one of core characteristics of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), leading to many difficulties for them to integrate into the community. Participation in early intervention programs has proven to be very beneficial for children with ASD. This paper presents the communication deficits of children with ASD and provides research evidence that Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) can develop communication skills for children with ASD. Potentials of the Structured Program for Early Childhood Therapists Working with Autism (SPECTRA) in developing communication skill for children with ASD is also analysed based on eight features of this EIBI model. EIBI Programs in general and SPECTRA in particular should be considered in the education of children with ASD in Viet Nam to contribute to improving community integration for this special group of children
