02. Exploring English teachers’ satisfaction with the online teaching at University of Information Technology in the Covid-19 pandemic

ABSTRACT: The COVID-19 pandemic led to the sudden shift to the online teaching and learning which caused a lot of problems for both teachers and students on the globe. English teachers and students at University of Information Technology (UIT) are not an exception. Thanks to the COVID-19 vaccines, people can lower the risk of getting serious illness, hospitalization, and death. Teachers and students can come back to school to continue their teaching and learning. This study examines UIT English teachers’ satisfaction with the online teaching during the pandemic and most importantly, the study also gets practical opinions from UIT English teachers for improving the teaching of English the new normal. The results show that in teaching online, apart from problems and challenges for UIT English teachers in terms of technology, course design, teacher-student communication, advantages from teaching online are revealed such as students’ awareness of autonomous learning. Based on that, suggestions for teaching English in traditional classes in the new normal are provided. Blended learning should be considered to help UIT students better improve the language skills and have more favorable conditions to practice and review. In addition, in-class communication, students’ autonomous learning should be enhanced in a variety of activities or using online tools and platforms.
